First email from Emma

So it's officially day one of the 6 week course and my email arrived this morning. The first one was mainly aimed at me getting all set up with goals and everything I need to get started.

Emma said it is important to have a goal in mind when you start which we were asked to post on the Facebook page. I am going to post mine on here.

My goal is to to earn an extra £500 in August so I need to be building up my extra income each month until I get there.

Keep your eye on the blog to see how I get on. Why not sign up yourself and join me on the course

Creating your Facebook company

One evening back in September I was creating some labels for my own Avon books and I realised that it might be something that other people would be interested in as well. I decided to start up a Facebook page and give selling labels a go. It has gone really well and I would definitely recommend starting your own business from home through Facebook. If you would like to take a look at my page it is Laura Prints

I started off with just a simple idea and have been adding to it over the last few months and now I am selling not just labels but other flyers, business cards, personalised chocolates and much more. It has taken off quite well and month on month I am making a little more. If you aren't brave enough to start out on your own just yet you can always join my team. I'm always looking out for independent reps to sell my items to others. Send me an email to find out more.

Here are some of the orders I have made for people.

I have now started to connect with other people and there pages too and there are such a huge range of different things that people sell you really could try anything. Here are two of my favourites Stephanie's Bath Delights and House of Vestress both are really different Stephanie sell lovely goodies for the bath and House of Vestress have some nice hand made items.

So what could you sell? You can either buy things in to sell on or make them yourself?

Let me know if you decide to give it a go and I will pop over and like your page?

Selling your resources online - TES

So I have been selling my resources online since September last year and make between £50 and £100 each month. I do however know of people that are making much more from there's but I don't post new content everyday just when I have something that is particularly good or that I enjoyed teaching.

The easiest way to do this is via a site called TES, if you are a teacher and aren't signed up for this site already you should be. It's amazing for finding resources for lessons and has a brilliant online forum that offers a whole host of advice to people in teaching or who work in school, they also post all the latest education news.

Anyway back to the money making bit..... So you go online log in or make an account and then you click to sell your resources. You can then upload a description and set your price you are then good to go. This is the information direct from the TES website.

I did previously look into selling on another popular site called Teachers Pay Teachers but I found it quite difficult to navigate so decided TES was better for me.

One of the nice things about it is after you have uploaded your resources they are there to make money all the time without you having to do anything to them so you are getting passive income. However that said I have found that more you add things the more sales you seem to get.

If you would like to take a look at my TES store it is called Laura's Maths Resources

Let me know how you get on if you decide to give it a try.

I have signed up and will try out some of the different ideas then hopefully be able to share what I liked with you. Hopefully we will make some more money for the savings jar.

Welcome to my blog

Hi and welcome to my first blog post on my blog.

I have wanted to start blogging for some time and wondered what to write about when it occurred to me that I am always looking at ideas how I can make a little more money on the side and thought that would be something really worth sharing.

So why did I call it My Rainy Day Pot.... well I have a friend who refers to any money she saves as the rainy day fund so I thought what better name for a blog about saving a little money or making a little extra.

I am a secondary school teacher in the UK so some of the things I have tried out are linked to work but others are things anyone can do. I have started out with selling my resources online,  creating a company where I sell printed items through Facebook and AVON. I will put some post out about those things shortly.

The next things on my list to look into are mystery shopping, exam paper marking and possibly matched betting. I've heard loads about that but not given it a whirl yet.

I will post how to blogs on things that I have tried so you can have a go too. Then I will also posts blog post as I go along trying out new ideas letting you know what seems to be successful or not

Hope you enjoy reading my post, say hello in the comments.
